New regulations in schools in the United Arab Emirates aim to improve students' concentration and well-being. More and more schools are introducing bans on mobile phone use during lessons – and even throughout the entire school day.
At Emirates International School – Jumeirah, a rule has been introduced whereby secondary school students hand in their phones every morning and can only collect them after school. This measure is intended to reduce addiction to mobile devices and create a more conducive learning environment.
The school's management emphasizes that the decision is related to several key aspects, such as encouraging interaction in the real world and improving concentration and academic performance. Practice has shown that the absence of phones in the classroom allows students to become more involved in lessons and school life. Education experts predict that similar solutions may also be introduced in other schools in the UAE. In a world where children and young people are spending more and more time online, Emirati schools are focusing on real-life interaction.
